A plurality of anti-microbial particles are then applied to the primer coating layer and engage and are embedded in the primer coating layer. A top coat including a non-stick material is applied to the anti-microbial particle layer. In either embodiment, the coating layers applied to the surfaces of the electrode are cured to harden and adhere the layers to the electrode.

An electrosurgical device including a reinforcing underlayment having a non-stick, anti-microbial coating. In one embodiment, the coating includes a non-stick material having anti-microbial particles interspersed in the non-stick material. This coating is applied to the surfaces of the electrode to minimize the build-up of charred tissue on the surfaces of the electrode. Also, the coating tends to kill harmful organisms residing on the surfaces of the electrode. In another embodiment, a primer coating is initially applied to the surfaces of the electrode. A plurality of anti-microbial particles are then applied to the primer coating layer and engage and are embedded in the primer coating layer. A top coat including a non-stick material is applied to the anti-microbial particle layer. In either embodiment, the coating layers applied to the surfaces of the electrode are cured to harden and adhere the layers to the electrode.

A reinforcing underlayment including dry uniform particles evenly applied to a wet bonding material layer on a surface of a substrate. The substrate, including the layers, is then cured to harden the one or more of the layers. A final coating or topcoat is applied to the cured surface of the substrate. The dry particles are evenly distributed onto the bonding material layer creating a uniform surface for subsequent coatings. The dry particles increase the strength of the liquid coatings increasing solid particle density within the coating system and thereby imparting properties not available for the liquid coatings. The present invention enables a user to easily introduce very heavy, dense, strong particles into a liquid coating and allows the user to apply very dense, heavy particles into and onto a wet bonding material layer followed by a subsequent wet topcoat layer which is cured as one contiguous material with reinforcement and underlayment strengthening coming from the added, dry particles.

A plurality of anti-microbial particles are then applied to the primer coating layer and engage and are embedded in the primer coating layer. A top coat including a non-stick material is applied to the anti-microbial particle layer. In either embodiment, the coating layers applied to the surfaces of the electrode are cured to harden and adhere the layers to the electrode.

A bake hardenable steel sheet ready for deep drawing is coated on at least one side with a continuous chromium bearing epoxy coating. The sheet is roll coated with continuous liquid film containing at least 2 wt.% of a water dispersible or emulsifiable epoxy resin or a mixture of resins containing the epoxy resin, at least 0.5 wt.% of a chromium compound and 25-97 wt.% of water. The liquid coated sheet is induction heated at a temperature of 149-227°C for sufficient time to form a coating resistant to dissolution of chromium and a steel base metal having a yield point elongation no greater than 0.3 % and retaining good bake hardenability characteristics. The chromium bearing epoxy coating is impervious to moisture, can readily be welded and possesses sufficient toughness and lubricity to allow deformation of the sheet without additional external lubricant. A deeply drawn article formed from the sheet has enhanced painting characteristics.

Slip stubs, which comprise a plain shaft portion and a splined portion are degreased by a wet abrasive blast and transferred to a conveyor where they are gripped by chucks. Hydraulic rams 5 lift priming baths 4 so that slip stubs 3 are immersed in primer 6. The conveyor is then indexed to bring the primed slip stub over electrostatic detearing means comprising grid 7 supported on insulator 8. After excess primer has been removed, the slip stubs are dried by a current of air from a fan passing over an electric heating element. In the next coating stage drive rollers 11, 12 engage a support carrying the chucks. Each chuck is rotated so that the primed slip stub is in alignment with block 15 reciprocable vertically by ram 16. Centre 35 of block 15 can engage a complementary centre in the free end of the slip stub. Shield 13, 14 protect rollers 11, 12 and chuck 2. Spray gun 17 coats the rotating slip stub. The electrostatic spraying field is adjusted by block 15 to prevent build up of powder at the bottoms of the splines. The process and apparatus include a precuring or drying of the coating by rapidly heating the sheet in an electromagnetic induction coil to volatilize solvents in the coating. The precured sheets are then immediately conveyed to a conventional convection oven for further heating the sheets by baking the sheets at a temperature and for a duration in accordance with the drying and curing specifications of the coating manufacturer. An induction heater includes an electrically conductive coil that produces an alternating magnetic field when current is applied to the coil. The dry particles are evenly distributed onto the bonding material layer creating a uniform surface for subsequent coatings. The dry particles increase the strength of the liquid coatings increasing solid particle density within the coating system and thereby imparting properties not available for the liquid coatings. The present invention enables a user to easily introduce very heavy, dense, strong particles into a liquid coating and allows the user to apply very dense, heavy particles into and onto a wet bonding material layer followed by a subsequent wet topcoat layer which is cured as one contiguous material with reinforcement and underlayment strengthening coming from the added, dry particles.
