Es kann auch zumindest ein Additiv in einem Anteil von maximal 25 Gew.-% enthalten sein, das ausgewählt ist aus Antioxidantien, Kupfer-Deaktivatoren, Korrosionsschutzmitteln, Verschleissschutzmitteln und/oder Antischaummitteln. Highly toxicorganic biocides have been added to reduce microbial growth. The use of such biocides can now be avoided, by instead using a stable solution of boric acid in a solvent, the boric acid being completely dissolved or at least free from any particles larger than 100 nm in size, and adding this solution to the fuel, hydraulic fluid or lubricant to give a final concentration of boron in the range of 1–100 ppm, preferably 1 –50 ppm in the product. While preventing microbial growth, the addition of boron also reduces corrosion, in particular microbiologically induced corrosion (MIC).

Branched diesters and methods of making and using the same

The disclosure generally provides branched diester compounds having exceptional low-temperature and flow properties. The disclosure also provides uses of the branched diester compounds in lubricant compositions, for example, as a base oil, and in other applications where their low-temperature and flow properties can be employed beneficially. The disclosure also provides efficient and green methods for making the branched diester compounds. In certain embodiments, a vegetable oil-based diester (1,6-hexyldioleate) was branched with propanoic acid (C3) using a green synthetic approach involving solvent-free and catalyst-free epoxide ring opening followed by in situ normal esterification. A total of three branched ester derivatives possessing varied numbers of internal protruding branched ester groups and hydroxyl groups were obtained. All of the pure branched derivatives were comprised of mixtures of positional isomers and/or stereoisomers. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) showed that regardless of the composition inhomogeneity of each branched derivative, crystallization was suppressed completely in all of the branched compounds, and they all demonstrated glass transitions below −65° C. Without being bound by any theory, it is believed that this unique thermal behavior is attributed to the internal protruding branched moieties and hydroxyl groups, which dramatically slowed down mass transfer starting with the least branched compound (2-branched derivative). The viscosity of the branched compounds was one order of magnitude larger than that of the starting di ester due to the increased branching and increased resistance to flow associated with hydrogen bonding introduced by the OH groups. Overall, these branched diesters demonstrated superior low temperature and flow properties comparable to existing non-sustainable commercial lubricants and analogous biobased materials which makes them suitable alternatives for use in lubricant formulations particularly in high ...

Disclosed herein is a process for preparing a salt of a sulfurized alkyl-substituted hydroxyaromatic composition having a reduced content of unsulfurized alkyl-substituted hydroxyaromatic compound and its unsulfurized metal salt. The process involves the steps of: (a) providing a composition comprising (i) a salt of a sulfurized alkyl-substituted hydroxyaromatic compound; (ii) an unsulfurized alkyl-substituted hydroxyaromatic compound and (iii) an unsulfurized metal salt of the alkyl-substituted hydroxyaromatic compound; wherein the alkyl-substituted hydroxyaromatic compound is derived from alkylation of a hydroxyaromatic compound with one or more olefins comprising C 9 to C 18 oligomers of monomers selected from propylene, butylene or mixtures thereof; (b) protonating the unsulfurized metal salt of the alkyl-substituted hydroxyaromatic compound with an effective amount of an acidic compound capable of protonating the unsulfurized metal salt of the alkyl-substituted hydroxyaromatic compound; and (c) removing the unsulfurized alkyl-substituted hydroxyaromatic compound and the protonated unsulfurized metal salt of the alkyl-substituted hydroxyaromatic compound from the composition.

Said oily phase comprising fatty acids is subjected to fractionation. Fractionation divides the fatty acids to specific fractions, which may be refined to products with controlled hydroprocessing. Products may comprise paraffinic renewable aviation fuel components, paraffinic renewable base oil, renewable paraffinic diesel fuel components, renewable paraffinic technical fluid, or any combination thereof.

Herein is provided a process for producing renewable products, such as a renewable base oil, from a feedstock of biological origin. The process comprises subjecting a feedstock comprising free fatty acids and fatty acid glycerides, wherein at least one hydrocarbon chain is unsaturated, to esterification reaction in the presence of an alcohol. The ester stream thereby obtained is then subjected to metathesis conditions in the presence of a renewable alkene to obtain a metathesis product. Separation of said metathesis product comprises recovery of a fraction comprising or consisting essentially of C16 fatty acid esters, which is subjected to ketonisation reaction conditions to produce long chain ketones, which after hydrotreatment meet requirements for a renewable base oil. Ketonisation reaction produces renewable alkene usable in metathesis reaction.

The ester stream thereby obtained is then fractionated and a fraction comprising esters of unsaturated C18 fatty acids is subjected to metathesis conditions in the presence of an alkene to obtain metathesis products. Fractionation of said metathesis products comprises recovery of at least renewable 1-decene, and unsaturated C10-C15 fatty acid esters.
