Smart clamp device for connecting tubing

A hinged clamp provides quick connection and disconnection of sections of fluid tubing. Some embodiments include a spring-loaded catch mechanism that enables the clamp to be loosely latched, and a winding mechanism that can retract the catch to a securely latched condition. Other embodiments provide a hinged shaft that pivots about an end of the upper clamp ring. A middle section of the shaft can be inserted into a slotted opening in the lower clamp ring, and the winding mechanism can move an engagement surface against the lower clamp ring to securely latch the clamp. An adjustment mechanism is included in these embodiments which can adjust the amount of winding required to engage the clamp. In various embodiments, less than one turn or less than one-half turn is required to engage/disengage the clamp. The clamp can be openable only just enough for insertion of flanged ends of the tubing sections.

A coupling for securing pipe elements together in end-to-end relation has segments joined at one end by a pivot attachment and at an opposite end by an adjustable connection member. The segments surround a central space which receives the pipe elements. A gripping body is captured between the segments. The segments have angularly oriented reaction surfaces. The gripping body has angularly oriented contact surfaces which interface with the reaction surfaces. When the segments are drawn toward each other by the connection members, interaction between the reaction surfaces and the contact surfaces forces the gripping body radially inwardly. Inwardly facing arcuate surfaces on the segments and the gripping body engage and retain the pipe elements. A method of inserting pipe elements into the coupling while the segments and the gripping body are supported on a seal is also disclosed.

The invention relates to an improved O-ring seal for use as a high vacuum seal. A limitation of standard O-rig seals is the permeation of water through the O-ring. Especially for instruments in which parts are kept at a cryogenic temperature, such as a cryogenic electron microscope, the presence of water in the vacuum is a problem, as this results in ice growth on the cryogenic parts. A rectangular sheet metal duct system for conducting conditioned air from a furnace or air conditioner or conducting air from a room comprising:(a) rectangular sheet metal duct sections of a specific length;(b) flanges roll-formed on the ends of the duct sections with the flanges having a perpendicular face extending away from the walls of the main body of duct sections and a parallel face extending parallel to the walls of the main body of duct sections;(c) gasketing material affixed to the perpendicular faces of the flanges during the manufacturing process and prior to shipment;(d) flexible sealing corner pieces inserted to seal the corners of the ducts where the flanges do not meet each other with one corner piece sealing two mating ducts;(e) the rectangular sheet metal duct system being automatically sealed when a flange with gasketing material attached is put in contact with a flange of a mating duct section and the two duct sections contact the flexible corner pieces at the four corners of the duct sections; and(f) drive cleats are placed over mating duct section flanges to hold the duct system together.2. The present invention is used to apply corrosion prevention compound in the gap between flanges without using heat for melting the compound before sealing. The compound injection cylinder unit comprises two integrally formed cylinders sharing one connecting rod wherein the lower cylinder defines the hydraulic cylinder and the upper cylinder defines the compound injection cylinder. The compound injection cylinder unit is vertically formed on a pushcart provided with wheels for manual transportation. A high-pressure connection in a conduit or enclosure utilizing a bidirectional, pressure-energized seal. Male and female flanges are provided, where one of the flanges has a recess that accommodates a seal ring. The outer peripheries of the two flanges' sealing surfaces are in contact with each so that clamping, bolting and bending stresses are not borne by the seal ring. A system of connecting two flexible tubes together using the rolled back ends of the tubs to create abutment surfaces which when urged together for a fluid-tight seal.
