The present invention provides a benzimidazole-based copolymer represented by the following chemical formula [1] in which: D is an electron donor, A is a benzimidazole-based derivative, and n is an integer of from 10 to 150. The macromolecular compound according to the present invention can be used in various fields such as organic macromolecular solar cells, organic thin-film transistors and organic electroluminescent elements since it can provide outstanding light-absorbing properties, electrical conductivity, photovoltaic power and light-emission characteristics, and it is amenable to the process of spin coating when the device is employed.
