Реферат: 5909. Pittler, W. von. March 11, 1909, [Convention date]. Movable - abutment type, with outwardlys l i d i n g abutments. Pistons 3 project from either side of a central wheel and run in concentric annular chambers. Abutments 8 have perforations 9 which are moved outwards into register with the annular chambers by a pair of cams 11. After the pistons have passed, the abutments are returned quickly by a fluidpressed piston 14. The cam may have a continuous outer wall 11<11> and will then assist in the return of the abutments. Or, the outer wall may be removed in the neighbourhood of the eccentric portion 11<1>, Fig. 4, of the cam. Then the fluid pressure alone is used. If this fails, the cam-bowls on the abutments do not return to the cam-grooves but run upon the outer surface of the wall 11<11> and thereby the engine is rendered inoperative. If the engine is to run in alternative directions, either the abutment cams must have gradual slopes at both eccentric portions, as shown in Fig. 1, or separate cams of the shape shown in Fig. 4 may be arranged for alternative use. In the latter case the cams are carried by a sleeve splined to the stator and arranged to be moved axially by the reversing-gear. The abutments may be coupled to the crosshead of one piston or they may be fitted with separate pistons. These latter may be on the end covers and engage lugs projecting from the abutments through slots in the end covers.
