Loading and unloading.-A storage chamber A, covered by a roof a<1>, has inclined floors a fitted with discharge gates D, and is supported above the ground on a framework S. Trucks c run on an endless system of upper and lower horizontal and inclined rails so that coal, minerals, or granular materials can be transferred from vessels or cars to the storage chamber, or be discharged from the chamber into cars or vessels. In order to prevent spontaneous combustion of bituminous coal, it can be discharged through the gates D into trucks, raised to the upper central track 9<1>, and be discharged again into the chamber. The trucks may be operated by a cable K, or otherwise. Charging- shoots 13, 14, 15, and 16 are provided at suitable parts of the building for loading the cars &c.
