The first zone signal is produced from a combination of an original information-bearing signal (vector AB) and a frequency displaced idle frequency (vector OA). Recovery from the carrier (vector OC) of a wanted signal (vector DC) that is a replica of the information-bearing signal (vector AB) is achieved by bandpass filtering the carrier at a frequency (fs) centred about that of the information-bearing signal.
