Electric bells.-In a portable telephone and telegraph set, the iron frame of the electromagnetic calling - generator is provided with a gap adjacent to which is provided the bell armature c. The clapper of the bell r is carried by a curved arm c<2> secured to the armature. The bell is rung when a current from line energizes the relay f and closes a local battery circuit through the coils of the calling-generator and through the trembler or make - and - break contact of the bell. The electromagnets of the generator thus serve better for generating the calling- currents to be sent to line, and also as part of the bell which receives the calling. signal from the distant station.
