Direct air-pressure apparatus.-Liquid discharged by a siphon from an elevated tank forces the air out of a receptacle, and this air is used to force liquid from another receptacle. The liquid discharged by the siphon b from the tank a draws in air through the pipe d, Fig. 1, and, after operating a turbine f, displaces the air in the vessel m, to which a siphon n, o is fitted. The air forced out of the vessel m passes through the pipe s and discharges the vessel d, Fig. 3, to which water is admitted through the non-return valve c. The turbine f operates an air-compressor h, which is connected to the pipe s by the pipe j. The siphon n, o, which is used to discharge the liquid from the vessel m, is in two parts, and a valve-controlled pipe p, carried up above the tank a, connects the part n with the sump t. The pipe s is enlarged at r so as to prevent water from passing with the air into the vessel d. In a modification, a deep-trap siphon a, Fig. 2, is fitted with a "break" pipe b, which passes into the vessel d.
