[Grant of Patent refused.] Type.-A mould blade for type-casting machines, by which quads and spaces may be cast shorter than usual, is made in two parts a, c, shaped as shown, out of hard metal, with a spring m between. The quad is cast in the mould g, its thickness being regulated by the distance which the face h of the blade a projects into the mould. In order to cast the quad short, a projecting piece f from the part c is held in position at the top of the mould by a special matrix j. The matrix is held in position by bars l passing through oval holes, and is raised by a spring i when the centering pin is withdrawn, releasing the projection f, which is then pulled out of the mould. In this position, the surface of the projection f is flush with the surface h, and the blade may be used for casting ordinary type, an ordinary matrix being then used.
