Реферат: 14,270. Long, A., and Foster, R. June 28. Combing-machines.-Relates to the drawing-off apparatus of circular combing-machines. The wool is drawn from each circle by a set of three or four smooth rollers, having two or three lines of nip, and the sliver drawn from the large circle is conducted to the drawing-off rollers of the small circle by means of a pair of rollers d<8>, on each side of which is an adjustable trough g<4> terminating in an adjustable trumpet i<2>. In Fig. 10, four rollers are used in connection with the large circle, and three in connection with the small one. All the rollers are positively driven, and the rollers of each set are adjustable around one of them, that is to say, the rollers k<3>, k<4>, k<5> are adjustable about the axle of the roller k<6>, and the rollers r and s about the roller g, while each head of rollers is independently adjustable upon a base-plate. The rollers k<3>, k<4>, k<5>, r, and s are held in position by springs, each roller being mounted in a sliding yoke or carrier, which is operated by a single central spring, the strength of which is regulated by a screw. The frame d<5> carrying the rollers d<8> &c. is also adjustable with regard to the two roller heads, and the rollers d<8> are driven by bevel and spur gearing and a chain from the axle of the roller g, a spring and cam arrangement being employed to hold the frame against the tension of the chain.
