Moving figures.-A diver b standing on a ladder h and normally visible through the upper glazed front a' of the casing is adapted on prepayment to descend into a tank of water c and return again into view holding up the penny that has just been inserted. The diver is mounted on a platform d<5> carried by a nut working along the screw d<4>, which is rotated through gear d, d<1>, d<2>, d<3> from a motor d contained in a water-tight compartment c<1>. The body of the diver is bent downward about the pivot h<8>, Fig. 5, against the action of a spring h<10> as the descent commences, through a rod h<11>, divided arm h<6>, and bar h<4>, Fig. 7, pivoted at h<2>, owing to the engagement of the extremity of this bar with the groove h<5> in a fixed bracket h<1>. When the diver reaches the bottom, the arm is raised through 45 degrees into position to remove the coin k from the support e<6> during the ascent, by the engagement of a weighted lever f, Fig. 2, with a spring- depressed rod b<1>, Fig. 5, protruding from the platform d<5> and carrying a rack engaging a pinion on the arm socket, a notch on the rod engaging a projection on the platform to maintain the arm in the raised position. The rotation of the screw d<4> is reversed for the return movement by clutching the opposite mitre of the pair d<3> to the driving- spindle by means of levers controlled by a camgroove g<1> in the disk g. Just before the diver reaches the normal position, the extremity of the bar h<4>, which is hinged at h<3>, engages a wedge h<9> on the bracket h', thereby freeing the rod b<1> through a rod b<6> and bell-crank b<15>, and lowering the arm of the flgure. Coin action.-The coin inserted in a slot e tilts a pivoted lever e<2>, thereby raising a rod e<4> to lift a projection e<7> from a notch g<2> in the disk g and to remove the extremity of the arm from the fly i of the motor d. Coin-discharging mechanism.-The tilting of the lever e<2> allows the coin to pass down a shoot e<5> to the support e<6>. The coin is thrown into a shoot j, Fig. 2, as the arm of the figure drops, owing to the engagement of a fixed cam b<11>, Fig. 5, with a stud b<13> on the arm pivot, which is connected by a spring b<14> to a casing b<16>.
