[Classes 83 (ii.) and 83 (iv).] Welding.-Metal blocks, plates, sheets, bands, foils, leaves &c. are plated with aluminium or alloys thereof by first applying a thin coating of aluminium oxide to the base metal, then heating this metal and the aluminium &c. to welding temperature and then welding by rolls under sufficient pressure to break up the layer of oxide and thus allow union of the aluminium &c. with the base metal. Several layers consisting alternately of aluminium or alloy thereof and another metal may thus be united.
