Surgical sutures having desired flexibility and strength are made from at least 19 stainless steel filaments, each having a diameter not greater than 0.0018 inch. Small gauge sutures may be made, for instance, from nineteen filaments each of 0.0012 inch diameter, this being given a twist of twelve turns per inch, but larger diameter sutures are preferably made by twisting a number of filaments together to form a strand and then twisting several strands together to make the finished suture, the twist of the strands being opposite to that of the filaments. Such a wire is cleaned anodically and may then be encased in polytetrafluorethylene, which may be done by wrapping a strip of a film of this material around it and then passing it through a heating device to fuse it into a unitary whole. The SMP fiber bundle assembly is completed by being buried in the lower center of a self-healing concrete specimen. The SMP fiber bundle assembly is useful for the self-healing concrete quick repair system by inducing the width decrease of a generated crack and thereby increasing the self-healing effect of the reduced crack width in the future by using the shrink characteristics of the SMP fiber bundle when heat energy is generated by applying a small amount of electricity, when a crack is generated in the concrete specimen.

An assembly and method for using a flexible tensile member as part of the rigging for a dragline bucket. The tensile member includes a stranded core surrounded by a separate armor layer. The armor layer assumes the form of a hollow cylinder having a substantial wall thickness. A significant gap is provided between the outward-facing surface of the stranded core and the inward-facing surface of the armor layer. This gap minimizes wear between the two elements during the normal bending and flexing of the tensile member. A first anchor is attached to a first end of the stranded core and a second anchor is attached to a second end of the stranded core. These anchors serve to transmit tension carried by the stranded core. A first end of the armor layer is also attached to the first anchor and a second end of the armor layer is attached to the second anchor.

A thickness of a coating layer in all parts of an outer circumference of the S-shaped cross section of the zinc-aluminum alloy coated deformed steel wire is 20 μm or thicker. A manufacturing method of the zinc-aluminum alloy coated deformed steel wire comprises: a step of primarily rolling a wire rod; a step of performing stress relief heat treatment of the primarily rolled wire at a temperature of 300-500°C; a step of coating the primarily rolled wire with the zinc-aluminum alloy; and a step of obtaining the deformed steel wire with the S-shaped cross section by secondarily rolling the primarily rolled wire coated with the zinc-aluminum alloy at a rolling ratio of 5-40%. The purpose of the present invention is to provide the zinc-aluminum alloy coated deformed steel wire obtain excellent corrosion resistance by having the zinc-aluminum coating layer with enough thickness.

The invention pertains to a method for stranding aramid yarn around an endless core, wherein the core is provided for a stranding step to a stranding apparatus comprising at least one yarn bobbin, wherein during operation the bobbin revolves around its own axis and the bobbin revolves around the core, and unwinding the yarn from the bobbin around the core to provide a core surrounded by the yarn, wherein the yarn is a continuous aramid yarn provided with 0.05 to 0.95 wt%, based on the weight of the aramid, of a finish comprising an organophosphorus compound, wherein the organophosphorus compound is a compound of the formula X1X2X3P=O, wherein X1, X2, and X3 are independently selected from Y1-, Y1-O-, and M-O, wherein Y1 is a branched or straight-chain C1-C20 alkyl, aryl or alkenyl, with M being selected from Li, Na, K, or ammonium, with the proviso that at least one of X1, X2, or X3 is selected from Y1- or Y1-O-, wherein the different types of Y1 may be the same or different. In one embodiment, the continuous aramid yarn is provided with 0.10 to 0.50 wt% of the finish. It has been found that the use of a relatively minor amount of a finish comprising a specific organophosphorus compound results in an improved package stability on a rotating server with a rolling yarn take-off. Consequently, packages of aramid yarns provided with this finish allow for high speed stranding of aramid yarn around an endless core.

The aforesaid outer layer may comprise a second plurality of yarns 20 of a synthetic plastics having a lower melting point than the first plurality of yarns 21, for example from the class of polyolefins of propylene and ethylene. The yarns 21 may, as shown, be alternated with the yarns 20; or they can be disposed in a 1:2 or 2:1 or other ratio.
