The conductors of a flat cable from which part of the insulation has been removed are supported so that a marker strip can be accurately positioned and attached by a press. A sliding plate (14) which is forced downwards when the press is operated, is guided vertically by fixed rods (12) and has holes through which slide smaller rods (24) supporting the pressure head (16) against the force of return springs. Also attached to the head is a cutting blade (36) which enters a slot (80) across a block (48) supporting the conductors, so that their ends are trimmed when the marker strip is attached. The supporting block is attached to a positioning plate (46) with edges (62) shaped to slide between guides (44) on a base plate, so that it can travel from a loading position to the application position. The upper plate (14) carries locating pins (74) which enter locating holes (70) in the positioning plate, then entering holes (72) in the base plate for accurate positioning.

To join a terminal 20 to the braid (13) of a cable 10, the cable is placed within U-shaped arms 21 of the terminal. A current is passed between electrodes 30 and 31 which are also used to crimp the arms round the braid. Heat from the current melts the insulation 14 away to allow the terminal to make contact with the braid. A higher current is then passed to weld the terminal to the braid. The arms 21 may be triangular, to meet at an angle to the cable axis, or rectangular (fig 7). The terminal may have pre-applied solder (23, fig 6) to be melted by ultrasonic vibrations. The connection may be made at the end of the cable 10 or at a point along its length (see figures 5A, 5B).

The apparatus comprises means for repeatedly paying out wire from a wire source, a wire reversing body which clamps a wire end portion and reversing the wire end by 180 degrees, means for gripping the wire, and a cutter for cutting off, from the wire, a wire in a hair-pin configuration. Apparatus for measuring out a desired length of electric cable and transporting it to a work station comprises means for supplying the cable along a supply path through a guiding structure which includes a retractable guide element arranged under automatic control to be retracted when the end portion of the cable reaches the downstream end of the supply path so that during further cable supplying, the cable forms a loop which may hang downwardly with the leading end of the cable retained at or adjacent the downstream end of the supply path. When the desired length of cable has been formed into a loop, the cable is severed from the supply, and with gripping means holding the respective ends of the cable, a lateral displacement device is operated to convey the cable to a work station, at the same time bringing further gripping means into position ready for the next cycle of operation. At the work station any desired operation such as insulation stripping may be effected.

An apparatus and a method for readily untwisting the ends of a plurality of twisted wire conductors that are to be stripped and connected to the terminals of an electrical or electronic apparatus. The apparatus comprises a shank having an end, and an elongated-shaped slot located in an end of the shank. The elongated-shaped slot extends into the shank a predetermined distance, and the slot has an opening adapted to receive the twisted wire conductors. The elongated-shaped slot has two spaced-apart and substantially parallel walls that engage and grip the twisted wire conductors when the wires are inserted into the elongated-shaped slot and the shank is rotated in a direction opposite the direction of twist of the wire conductors. After inserting the ends of a plurality of twisted wire conductors into the elongated-shaped slot of the shank, the shank is rotated in the direction opposite the direction of twist of the wire conductors. The separated conductor wires are then removed from the elongated-shaped slot, the wire ends are further separated and striped of insulation, and the wires are then connected to the terminals of an electrical or electronic apparatus.

There is provided a flat cable allowing a connector to be easily attached to terminals and a wiring harness provided with the flat cable. The wiring harness is provided with a connector and a flat cable. The connector is provided with a connector housing and a female terminal. The flat cable has: a plurality of electrical wires; and an elongated weft. Female terminals are attached to ends of the wires. The weft has: crossing sections that are perpendicular to the plurality of electrical wires and that are disposed at the plurality of electrical wires rising and falling by a certain rule; and parallel sections that are continuous with the crossing sections and that overlap the electrical wires positioned at the ends among the plurality of electrical wires. In order to ensure a reliable, robust and simple display of the tool-conductor contact for potential-free and short cable lengths, the tool ( 2 a, 2 b ) consisting of an electrically conductive material is fastened to a tool holder ( 1 a; 1 b ) made of electrically conductive material. A thin electrical insulation is provided between tool ( 2 a, 2 b ) and tool holder ( 1 a, 1 b ) so that these components together with the coaxial cable form a capacitor (CS). An inductance (La; Lb) is connected parallel to this so that a high-Q LC resonant circuit is formed between tool and tool holder. The electronic circuit arrangement excites the resonant circuit and determines characteristic oscillation parameters of this resonant circuit. Furthermore, for the cable processing tool-conductor contacts can be weighted according to contact time and specific time within the cable processing process and thus quantitative production exclusion criteria are determined.

A shield trim is performed by tearing bunched shield strands circumferentially along a circular edge. The apparatus includes a pair of aligned metal plates that have been drilled through multiple times such that holes of varying diameters pass may be passed through both plates. A cable gripper on the entry side of the device clamps the cable in place. A shield gripper on the rear side of the device closes over the exposed shielding of the cable, and the two plates are pushed together. The shield gripper travels with the rear plate, pushing the shield over the wires and causing the shield to bunch between the two plates. With the two plates pushed together, both grippers open and the cable is pulled free from the device. This pull forces a stress concentration on the shield strands as they are pulled and subsequently torn across the sharp edge of the hole, producing a uniformly trimmed shield. 1. Systems and methods are provided for wire processing. In certain examples, a wire processing system may be disclosed. The wire processing system may include a wire transport, a processing station that may provide wire to the wire transport, a processing station that may move an electrical component threaded onto the wire, and a processing station that may move the electrical component to a position on the wire for further processing. 1. An apparatus comprising:a wire retaining tray comprising at least one outlet;one or more springs; anda plurality of wire retainers, wherein the plurality of wire retainers are coupled together and coupled to the one or more springs and at least one of the at least one outlet of the wire retaining tray, and wherein at least one of the wire retainers comprises a wire holding mechanism configured to hold at least a portion of a wire in a substantially straight orientation.2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein at least two of the plurality of wire retainers are configured to be separated by a first distance in an extended configuration and be separated by a second distance in a retracted configuration.3. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the one or more springs are configured to exert a first force on at least one of the two wire retainers to move the at least two wire retainers to the extended configuration.4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein:each of the wire retainers further comprises a vertical opening and a horizontal opening;the wire holding mechanism is configured to move between at least an open position and a closed position; andthe wire holding mechanism in the open position is configured to allow the wire to pass through the vertical opening and the wire holding mechanism in the closed position is configured to prevent the wire from passing through the vertical opening.5. A cable processing device has at least one workstation designed as a changing station for processing cable ends of cables. This changing station includes two processing modules for optionally processing the cable end of the cable in one of the processing modules. The processing modules allocated to the changing station can be adjusted between a working position and a waiting position by an adjustment mechanism. The processing modules of the changing station are arranged on a carrier that is mounted on a machine frame such that the carrier is pivotable about a vertical axis of rotation. Disclosed is a method for producing a wire harness including a core inserting step of forming a widely open braided mesh portion by widening a braided mesh of a braid before crimping is performed, and of inserting a core into an end from the outside of the braid via the widely open braided mesh portion. 1.
