[Also in Divisions F1 and G1] A cooling fan for vehicle engines comprises fan blades 14 connected to one part 15 of a centrifugally-operable clutch, the complementary part 16 of which is driven by the vehicle engine, and temperature-responsive means 27 combined with the clutch to determine the angular velocity at which the clutch will be disengaged. The angular velocity at which the clutch is disengaged is governed by the loading on a dished spring 17, which loading is adjusted by nuts 20 on a spindle 24 and by the temperature-responsive means 27 which increases the loading on the spring 17 with an increase in the cooling water temperature. When the angular velocity of a pulley 8 has risen sufficiently, flyweights 22 pivot about points 23 and move an annular member 11 and a disc 13 axially against the spring 17 to disengage the clutch. The temperature-responsive means 27 may, as shown, comprise a number of dished annular bi-metallic elements or it may be a sleeve of liquid, rubber, plastics or similar deformable material.
