[Also in Divisions B4 and E2] A device for use in a hand-held drill for gear changing, comprises a gear changing sliding rod 3, and an operating knob 5, connected to the rod by a spring 4. The drill housing 2 has two recesses 11, 11<SP>1</SP>, into which a stop 9 is placed, in the two axial positions of the rod. Knob 5 has rocker portions 15 which slide along surfaces 16 in the housing. In operation, the knob is depressed so as to pivot about portions 15, and stop 9 is disengaged from recess 11. The knob and rod are shifted axially to change gear, and stop 9 snaps into recess 11<SP>1</SP>.
