Improvements in or relating to arrangements for illuminating the dials of instruments
Реферат: 336,288. Pioneer Instrument Co., Inc., (Assignees of Urfer, A.). March 26, 1929, [Convention date]. Dials and scales, illuminating.-The dials of instruments are indirectly and uniformly illuminated by an externally disposed source of light and optical means comprising an optical body disposed in the casing and formed with a curved reflecting surface whereby the emitted rays are distributed by internal reflection uniformly over the dial area. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, an instrument casing 13, carrying a dial 12 and cover glass 14, is mounted by means of a flange 17, 18 in a dashboard 11. The casing is drilled at 22 to receive a light distributing body 21 shaped as shown in Figs. 4 and 5 with a curved reflecting surface so as to permit rays from an external source of light such as a filament 19 to pass through and be reflected into a flat pencil of rays to illuminate the dial. To prevent shadows appearing at a remote part of the dial the optical body 21 is positioned so that the divergent rays strike the rear surface of the cover glass and are reflected therefrom on to the dial. A single source of light may be employed to illuminate the dials of a plurality of dashboard instruments symmetrically placed with respect thereto so as to receive the same degree of illumination.
