Valves closing after predetermined interval or flow.-A flushing-valve for water-closets comprises a main valve b having guides w terminating in a piston b<1> passing into a dash-pot d<4>, and a centrally-seating auxiliary or balancing valve d terminating in a piston d<2> within a dash-pot d<3> carried by the guides w. These dash-pots prevent water hammer ' as the valves close. The timing arrangement to give a predetermined flush when the handle G is released comprises a loose piston E contained in a cylinder D supported by a frame J and a split clamping yoke J' positioned by a dowel pin p in one of a circle of holes n. The piston E has lost motion on the valve spindle B, which has several passages i cut therein which are opened by the collar f in the opening action to allow fluid (for instance. oil or glycerine) to pass readily from above the piston to the space below. In the closing action, these passages are closed again by the collar f and the control fluid passes back slowly through a central passage v adjusted by a screw g. The top cover D<1> has a screwed sleeve t which is adjustable for varying the lift of the valve, and is made accessible by a removable cap u. Springs k, j in the timing-cylinder D and valve casing, respectively, press the valve spindle and valve in the closing direction.
