Railway-carriage doors, fastening automatically.- A governor a, mounted on a vertical spindle b and driven by a chain j from an axle g of the coach, serves to operate the slam bolts of all the doors of the coach through the following mechanism. A sliding collar v of the governor is connected by a bell-crank w, link 2, and lever 3 to one of a series of shafts 4 extending transversely across the coach and connected together by a rod 22 supported on rollers 23 ; each shaft operates the bolts 12 of a pair of opposite doors through cranks 5, vertical links 6, and levers 8. Each bolt comprises a bolt head 18, Fig. 8, carried by a plunger 16 working in a casing 15 under the control of a spring 19, and is operated by the engagement of the forked arm of the lever 8 with pins 11 projecting from the casing. An alternative form of governor is shown in Fig. 9, in which weights r<2> pivoted at 25 to a disk 26 are employed. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 16,479/07, 12,290/08, and 1031/11.
