The shield has depressions 7, formed at intervals in its upper surface, in which the lips 8 of the randcutter seat. Small flanges 6 preferably form the outer boundary of the depressions. The de - pressions, which are greater in extent than the lips 8, are made deeper towards their rear ends for the purpose of giving clearance to the cutter, which is sufficiently resilient to bed in the depressions. The rand-cutter is in the form of a dished plate, and the edge-cutter, which is dished to a greater degree than the randcutter, rests on the lips of the rand-cutter. Spaces are thus provided between the rand-cutter and the shield and the rand-cutter and edge-cutter for the ready escape of dust and shavings.
