Branches and mains, connecting; junctionpieces; with valves.-For joining a branch pipe to a main under pressure, a saddle is secured to the main by a strap and is adapted to receive a ferrule serving as a guide for a drill, which, after boring the main, is partially withdrawn and the ferrule closed by a screw plug inserted at right-angles to the ferrule; the drill is then completely withdrawn and the branch pipe fixed in its place. A saddle 2, having packing 5 beneath, is fixed by a strap 3 and receives a ferrule 8 through which a drill 17 is inserted, a connector 15 and cap 16 serving to retain packing 18 round the drill. After boring the pipe, the drill is partly withdrawn and the passage through the ferrule closed by screwing a plug 11 to project into a recess 10. In addition to the branch 13, a side branch for attaching a pipe may be provided opposite the opening 9, a blank cap being fitted over the branch out of use. An adjusting-screw 19 carried by a frame 20 may be provided.
