Реферат: 470,682. Metal - heating furnaces. RENAULT, L. Dec. 2, 1936, No. 33118. Convention date, Oct. 31. [Class 51 (ii)] [Also in Group XI] In a rotary-hearth furnace for annealing, case-hardening, nitriding or otherwise heattreating metals in a gaseous atmosphere, a single lock chamber 18 is provided for charging and discharging while the hearth 3 and the fixed gas-tight enclosing casing 7 are fitted with skirt portions 9<1> which depend into an oil seal cooled by a water coil 26. The casing 7 is formed of stainless metal plate and is itself surrounded by an outer casing consisting of walls 10 and a roof 11 held in a metal frame 12 so as to constitute a unit which can be readily removed to permit repairs. The lock chamber 18, which is built up of stainless steel sections, is fitted with an inner stainless steel valve 23 and an outer door 21, the whole chamber unitbeing enclosed within a heat-insulating casing 17. The furnace is heated by electric elements 13, 14, 15 while a high temperature is maintained in the chamber 18 by elements 19, 20 around it and by further elements 21<1> in the door 21. The gaseous atmosphere is supplied through a whirling diffuser 16 located diametrically opposite the chamber 18, the gas after passing around the hearth being supplied through a byepass connection 24 to the lock chamber to effect scavenging thereof. Valves are provided in the byepass 24 and in the gas outlet pipe 25 so that the pressure within the furnace and the lock chamber can be regulated to prevent entry of air.
