Реферат: A flux for use in are welding, particularly as a coating for an electrode, comprises 4 parts by weight of titanium dioxide, 1-5 parts of iron oxide (preferably 4 parts of brown ferric oxide), 2 parts of sodium carbonate, 1 part of silica, and 1/2 -5 per cent, calculated on the amount of the above ingredients, of hydrated lime. The electrode, which may be of mild steel containing ,06-,18 per cent of carbon, ,15-,6 per cent of manganese, the percentage of manganese varying with the carbon content, ,07-,1 per cent of copper, and silicon, phosphorus, and sulphur totalling less than ,05 per cent, may be pickled, washed, dried to produce a thin rust or sull coating, and then immersed in a bath of water containing the flux, which is preferably heated and agitated by injection of steam. The rod is then dried and reduced to the desired size by drawing through dies. Lubricants such as soap, hydrated lime, or soap and hydrated lime may be added to the flux bath, and soap may be used during the drawing operation.
