In an inductive heating plant which supplies heated metal ingots to an extruding press or cable sheathing press 9 and in which each ingot is conveyed to the press from one of a number of inductive heaters 1, 1<SP>1</SP>, 1<SP>11</SP> in which the ingots are uniformly heated, the head of each ingot is additionally heated in an inductive heater 5 before entering the press. An ingot 2 moving along conveyer 4 is halted, with its head within heater 5, by a stop 7. The stop also includes a limit switch which on operating stops conveyer 4, actuates a clamping device 6 which holds the ingot in position and switches on the heater 5. After a predetermined time or when the head of the ingot reaches a predetermined temperature a second switch operates which switches off the heater, releases the clamping device, swings the stop 7 out of position and restarts the conveyer 4 to feed the ingot to the press.
