Cam-actuated pumps; stroke, varying; valves, arrangement of.-The fuel-supply pump of an oil - engine is provided with an improved regulating-device interposed between the actuating-cam and the moving member of the pump to vary the stroke, either manually or automatically, in accordance with the load. The inlet pipe 3 leads past a filter 14 to suction valves 12 in the pump casing 1, and the delivery is.by way of two valves 13 and also two adjustable spring-controlled valves near the injector nozzle. The valve pockets have caps 15 to facilitate removal of the valves. The plunger 6 is guided by a bracket 7 and has an enlarged portion 8, between which and the bracket is a spring 9 for maintaining the plunger in its outer position. Between the cam 16 on the shaft 17 and the head 8 is the regulating-device 18 pivoted at 19 and carrying a roller 21 adapted to engage with the cam. The outer position of the plunger is varied by means of a hand-lever 35 having an eccentrically-mounted member 34 adapted to engage the part 33 of the lever 18. The regulating-device has a projection 22 provided with a notch 23. Upon the shaft 17 is a conical sleeve 29 which is moved longitudinally thereon by a governor 37. The lever 25 is pivoted at 24 and is provided with a spring 27 which keeps the member 30 in engagement with the conical sleeve. The sleeve normally prevents the arm 26 of the lever 25 from engaging the notch 23, but when the engine speed exceeds a predetermined limit, the sleeve is moved so that the arm 26 engages the notch 23 and holds the arm 18 and plunger 6 in their innermost positions.
