As shown in Fig. 1, parison 22 is extruded from extruder 20 and received in preform blow-mould 30 which is tilted on platens 23 by cylinder 33 for more favourable material distribution and severed by knife 29. The left hand platens 23 are retracted by cylinder 25 to the blowing position while the right hand platens 23 are extended to the receiving position. Parison 22 is blow-moulded in mould parts 30 by nozzle 70 to preform 48 while previously formed preform 48 is blowmoulded to final form 65 in blow-mould 31. After blowing, platens 23 are moved apart, preform 48 being retained on nozzle 70 and product 65 on nozzle 71, the nozzles 70, 71 then being retracted to strip product 65 and position preform 48 for subsequent receipt in mould parts 31. The platens 23 are then moved back to the Fig. 1 position so that mould parts 30 receive a fresh parison and mould parts 31 the preform 48. The preform blow mould 30 forms a portion of the handle area such that it is received in the final blow-mould 31 and the handhole formed by surfaces (56, Fig. 7, not shown) thereof without formation of external flash. The preform blow-mould 30 may have heating elements (46, 47, Figs. 2, 3, not shown) to maintain the preform 48 at a suitable temperature for orientation. The flash formed by surfaces (56) in the hand-hole of the blow-mould 31 may be removed by plunger (60, 61, Fig. 7, not shown).
