Tapping.-In tapping-devices of the kind which are so constructed that when the tap is inserted into the cask &c. the opening for the egress of the liquor is opened, and when the tap is withdrawn the opening is automatically closed, the tap is formed at its inner end as shown in Fig. 9, to engage a flat on a tubular member b, Fig. 1, screwing into a fixed tubular member a in the known manner, and is provided with a fixed flange c and a screwed collar e for holding the tap in position. The member a is screwed into a bush d, which is screwed into the tap - bole of the cask. The member b is perforated and has a flange b<2>, which fits against the chamfered end of the member a so as to form a valve. The chamfered part of the member a may be at a slight distance from its end, in which case the member b is correspondingly shaped. A cap, capable of screwing into the member a, may be used to exclude dust &c. when the tap is removed. In a modification, in order to prevent the part a from unscrewing with the tap, the collar e, Fig. 13, has a finer thread than the threaded part of the tap which is screwed into the part a, and a rubber washer e<1> and a washer d<2> are used.
