Moulding bricks; pug-mills.-The clay near the mouthpiece b<1> of the pug-mill is divided by a pair of knives or blades on opposite sides of the shaft a<1>, and is forced by a pair of curved pressure blades or cams b through a die or aperture b' into moulds in a sliding block c reciprocated by a cam c<1> acting on rollers c<4>. Plungers e, fitted with rollers e<1>, are lowered on a vertically-sliding block g, controlled by a cam and lever g', to admit clay to the moulds, and are raised by cams, levers o, and vertically- sliding tables f, f to eject the bricks from the moulds. A plate or table h is adjustable by means of screws h<1>, to regulate the feed of clay to the moulds. The moulds are lubricated by cotton waste, or packing, saturated with oil, placed in spaces e<3> under loose plates e' on the plungers.
