Aerial machines without aerostats; aeroplanes; propelling; steering land. ing; framework.-The framework of the machine consists of two horizontal lattices a, b connected by a central lattice d of a depth approximately half the width of the horizontal frames. The upper and central frames, and the lower frame b if necessary, are covered with fabric to form an aeroplane. The horizontal planes are preferably narrower at the front than at the rear. The machine is propelled by screws o placed on both sides of the central plane, and it is steered by horizontal and vertical vanes f, k operated by endless cords h passing round drums i, n. Additional vertical planes may be placed on either side of the central plane. Air-tubes q placed along the bottom framework b and turned upwards at their ends serve as floats for supporting the machine on water, and lessen the shock when landing.
