Submarine vessels.-In order to relieve the outboard fuel receptacles A of submarine boats of the effects of the external pressure when submerged, water is allowed to enter them and thus to equalize the pressure. The cocks H are opened, allowing water to enter the receptacle A, and the liquid fuel is fed in by the plug C, passing into the receptacle on each side of the partition a<2>. When the fuel is observed to pass out by the cocks H, they are closed, and the plug is closed by the cover c<1>. The cocks H are then opened, permitting water to enter as the fuel is used. A gauge glass is provided in the conning-tower, by which the amount of fuel is ascertained.
