Sifting.-Relates to plansifters of the general construction shown in Fig. 1, in which a frame a is suspended by rods b, and is set in motion by a crank on the shaft c<2>. The frame a comprises a central cross-bar g, Fig. 3, to which the long side bars f of channel-iron are secured. The bars f are not united at the ends, but are tightened up by draw-rods h and nuts i, after the sifting- frames d have been placed between them. Other frames d are placed above and below those clamped between the bars f, and are held together by clamping rods and nuts e. The frames held by the bars f can be clamped in a direction at rightangles to the direction of action of the rods h by pivoted bell-crank levers q, Fig. 5, united by removable draw-rods o, or by levers s, Fig. 6 actuated by screws r.
