Stylus mountings; feed-motions. - A phonograph is provided with two sound-boxes having separate styli, or one sound-box having two styli, which are adapted to be alternately engaged with two feed-screws of equal pitch but rotating at different speeds for reproducing records having 100 or 200 threads per inch. Two sound-boxes C' connected together are each adapted to be moved into position in a guiding frame under the trumpet exit by means of a rack c<4> and pinion teeth b<8> upon a cam-disk B<3> operated by a handle b<3>. A cam-surface b<4> on the disk B<3> is adapted to engage the upper ends of two spring plungers B', B<2> and raise the feed-nuts on the lower ends of these plungers out of engagement with the feed-screws E, E'. To raise the stylus c<2> from the record while changing the record, a cam-surface b<10> on the cam-disk B<3> causes a pivoted lever b<9> provided with a roller b<11> on its end to raise the floating weight c', and with it, the stylus. In a modification having one sound-box with two styli, the sound-box is moved by a rack and pinion transversely with the record to change the gear and simultaneously bring the second stylus into operative position. The two styli may be situated on the same end of one stylus lever, or on opposite ends of the lever, or on opposite ends of two jointed stylus levers. Fig. 6 shows a method of pivoting the stylus bar c<2> on its pivot c' working in slots c<7>, c<8> in the main bearing c<5>, to give it freedom of movement. Pivoted cams operated by the cam-disk B<3> may be used to lift the floating weight and stylus while changing gear. The stylus lever carrying two styli at one end may be rotated by worm and other gearing operated by cams on the camdisk B<3> to bring the second stylus into operative position simultaneously with changing gear.
