Marker for underground marking of measuring points

[Also in Divisions B4, E and G1] A marker for survey measuring points comprises a light multisection tube 2 (e.g. of plastics) forming a socket for a ranging pole, the tube 2 having a conical head 1 (e.g. of aluminium) which remains in position as an underground marker even if the tube itself is accidentally displaced (e.g. by a bulldozer). The tube sections are coupled by interlocking grooves 3 which yield on bending. A boundary marking cone 14 may be located in the head 1, and the tube 2 may be closed by a cap 15. The marker may be driven into the ground by a striking bar removably inverted in the tube 2 to rest on the hoad 1; such bar may also be ribbed for use in drilling a preliminary hole and may carry an electrically insulating sleeve. In a modification the striking bar and head are formed with chamfered lugs, Figs. 4-6 (not shown) so that after driving to the required depth with the lugs in end-on engagement the bar may be turned slightly or struck to break off the lugs on the head, thereby disconnecting the head from the tube.
