Improvements in sizing and finishing of textile materials
Реферат: Textiles are sized and finished with a paste containing starch, e.g. maize starch, and one or more esters derived from a polyglycol or poly-glycerol and one or more monobasic fatty acids. The molecular weight of the poly-alcohol portion of each ester molecule is preferably not less than 200 and the fatty acid portion preferably contains from 12 to 18 carbon atoms. The paste may contain between 0.5 and 5 per cent. of the ester or esters computed on the weight of starch. Polyethylene glycol esters may be used e.g. nonaethylene glycol mono-stearate or polyethylene glycol mono-stearate having 25 ethylene oxide residues in the polyglycol portion of its molecule. The esters may be made by heating ethylene oxide under pressure with fatty acids and an alkaline catalyst e.g. KOH. Oleic acid and rosin and tall oil acids may be used.
