Improvements in and relating to means for augmenting the flow of liquids in sewers and like conduits

[Class 33.] A device for augmenting the flow of liquids in sewers consists of a sluice gate fitted with a pumping-unit. For example, a centrifugal pump or an axial flow pump may be fitted in a vertically-sliding gate. Fig. 3 shows a radial gate a fitted with a screw pump b. The parts are mounted on a frame f pivoted at g and are operated by gearing c ; this device may be fitted so as to be turned over in order to reverse the flow in a conduit. A gate may be mounted on a central vertical pivot and fitted with two pumps with the same object of reversing the flow, or a gate resembling that shown in Fig. 3 may have a duplicate pump just above the pump b ; this duplicate pump is brought into use, and the pump b thrown out of use, when the device is turned over to reverse the flow. For the same purpose, two pumps are mounted on a see-saw-like balanced lever. A device resembling that shown in Fig. 3 is fitted with three pumps. In another modification the pump is mounted on an inclined runway, and in that shown in Fig. 11, two pumps bare combined with two gates a, mounted on a pivot g, and driven by a motor c.
