[Class 55 (ii).] The solution of salts employed in the process according to Specification 304,333, [Class 55 (ii), Gas manufacture &c.], for taking up water from hot fuel gases without correspondingly taking up free ammonia, is brought into intimate contact with a stream of heated gas from an external source in order to evaporate the absorbed water. Coke scrubbers or the apparatus described in Specification 272,970, [Class 34 (i), Drying gases &c.], may be employed and waste gases such as flue or chimney gases utilized. The treated solution may be cooled by cold water or waste liquor arising from the gas manufacturing process. The chimney lining &c. is desirably made resistant to corrosion when the flue gas temperature is brought down to the dewpoint by effecting a complete evaporation of the whole of the ammonia liquor arising from a carbonizing works.
