Реферат: The substrate consists of one or more glasses, and is pretreated with an alkali soln. (1), esp. a lye, and then washed, followed by the vapour deposition of the components, viz. Na, K, Sb, Cs, forming the photocathode layer. Soln. (1) pref. has pH 8-13, esp. 8-10 and contains NaOH, KOH, NH4OH, milk of lime, phosphate, borate, perborate, Na2 O2 or similar cpds. The pref. soln. (1) contains a mixt. of NaOH and KOH, or KOH and NH4OH; or KOH and Ca(OH)2; and is pref. rubbed into the surface of the glass, followed by washing to remove excess soln., leaving an alkaline surface. The residual alkali on the surface of the substrate functions as seed nuclei or as a catalyst, so vapour deposition produces a uniform photocathode layer with high sensitivity.
