A frequency modulator comprises a ring oscillator having a plurality of transistor stages 11, 21, 31 interconnected in a circular fashion for sequential conduction, a common source of collector bias for the stages and control means for varying the bias as a function of an input signal. As shown an output is taken from stage 31, but it may be taken from any of the frequency-modulated stages 11, 21, 31. As shown, the collector voltage is derived from the second, 52 of two cascaded emitter followers 51, 52 to the base of the first of which is applied (1) a centre-setting bias from potentiometer 43 and (2) the modulating signal from potentiometer 42, via capacitor 44. The ring oscillator may comprise any odd number of transistor stages, together with further emitter-follower stages, the frequency of oscillation being determined by the propagation delay of the transistors.
