Semi - automatic exchange systems. - In a method of supervising the operators in a semi-automatic system. special supervising positions can be connected to any exchange board to be supervised in such a way that the supervisor can listen to the calls received by the operator and can observe the manner in which the call is dealt with. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the leads a from the operators B to their service selectors DW are connected to the contacts of a switch S at the supervisor's position in such a way that a telephone T and an acoustic or recording device R can be connected into the lead a. The impulses transmitted to the group selector GW are heard in the telephone and recorded by the device R. In order to check the setting of the keyboards before the impulses are transmitted, the supervisor may have a keyboard which can be connected to the keyboards of the different operators so as to duplicate the record, or the supervisor may directly observe the operator's keyboard or an image thereof by means of telescopes, mirrors, lenses, &c. The supervisor may prevent the transmission of impulses in the event of an incorrect setting of the keyboard. In another arrangement, the supervisor can make a test call to an operator, and the impulses transmitted operate dummy selectors provided with devices for indicating the positions of their switch arms. Impulse transmitters. - To facilitate observation of the keyboard, the upper surface of the kev is of a different colour from that of the sides of the key, but similar to that of the keyboard.
