[Also in Division F2] A flexible catheter 18 is provided at one end with a removable connecting device to secure the catheter to a hypodermic syringe 1 or like apparatus, the device comprising two co-axially engageable members 12 and 16, one of which is connected to, or adapted for connection to, said apparatus, and each member having a passage 14 and 17, respectively, to receive the catheter, with a tubular sleeve 15 of rubber or other resilient material embraced by an enlarged portion of the passage in one member, for compression by the other member on axial engagement to provide a seal between the members and the catheter. Compression may be achieved by the sleeve projecting beyond the end of its surrounding bore, or by other means such as a projecting collar in the engaging member. The catheter may be of nylon, and to prevent its being collapsed by the compressed sleeve, the extent of engagement of the members is limited, e.g. by abutment of their end faces, before excessive compression has occurred. The one member may be permanently secured to or integral with the syringe, or may have a socket formed to receive the boss 11 provided on the end of the latter. The members are preferably engaged by cooperating screw threads, or may be simply a tight push fit one within the other. In the syringe, the push rod 6 may be removable from the plunger 2, e.g. by means of a screw thread 8 engaging with a threaded bore 9 in the plunger.
