A method of forming sheet-metal sections for gas turbine blades comprises the steps of forming a rectangular sheet of metal 31, turning up and over at least one pair of opposed edges 29, 30 to form a flanged blank, loading the flanged blank with a mass of deformable filler material 32, for example, lead or " Cerrobend " (Registered Trade Mark), encompassed by the sheet and the flanges, placing the loaded flanged blank in a press between a concave and a convex die 19, 11, applying pressure to the dies to force the sheet to conform to the shape of the adjacent die, restraining the mutually presented edges of the flanges from separation in a direction transverse to the direction of die pressure and continuing the application of pressure to cause a lateral stretching of the sheet due to the lateral pressure exerted by the deformable filler material under the influence of the die pressure. The filled blank is positioned by tabs 27, 28 engaging recesses 34, 33 and end-pieces 13, 14 hold the filler in, the end-piece 14 being adjustable along a groove 17. The bent-over edges 29, 30 are gripped by saw-tooth ridges 35 along the die 11 as the dies are closed, lateral expansion of the filler material 32 stretching the centre of the sheet. The ridges 35 decrease in size towards the longitudinal edge of the die and may alternatively be formed on the concave die, the blank being appropriately positioned.
