Process and apparatus for the continuous chlorination of cellulosic materials by means of chlorine solutions
Реферат: 238,047. Vains, A. R. de. June 28, 1924. Pulp, preparation of.-Lignocellulose and like materials are chlorinated by continuously feeding the pulped materials and chlorine solution to a reaction vessel from which the products of reaction are continuously withdrawn, the rate of supply of either of the reagents being varied according to the degree of chlorination desired. One form of apparatus for carrying out the. process is described in which the cellulosic pulp and the chlorine solution are continuously fed through a common inlet into a reaction vessel provided with agitators and with an outlet. Another form of apparatus is described also in which the agitators are replaced by baffles. To maintain a desired uniform degree of chlorination the rate of supply of chlorine solution may be made to depend on the pressure obtaining inside the reaction vessel, and the rate of supply of cellulosic material to vary with the output of the apparatus in which the pulp is prepared. In this modification, as shown in the Figure, the reaction vessel H is provided with a bell J which rises or falls with increase or diminution of the pressure of chlorine gas set free in the reaction, and actuates a lever L controlling a valve F through which chlorine solution from a tank A is fed to the reaction vessel. Alternatively, the bell may be arranged to control the supply of water or of chlorine to the apparatus in which the chlorine solution is prepared. The cellulosic pulp is drawn by a pump B from a vat C in which is arranged a float M adapted to actuate the regulator N of a motor 0 which drives the pump, the arrangement being such that the speed of the pump is increased or diminished as the float rises or falls. In any of the forms of apparatus described the reaction vessel is lined with a material capable of resist-. ing the action of chlorine, a suitable material being an alloy containing 70 per cent of copper, 15 per cent of tin, and 5 per cent each of lead, aluminium, and phosphorus.
