Fares, registering and checking.-Fare indicators for hansom cabs and like vehicles are mounted adjacent to one side window on a support which is pivoted to two brackets, one carried from the roof and the other from the back of the vehicle, so that the weight of the indicator is distributed between the roof and the tack. and so that the driver can examine it by turning it about the pivot of its support. As shown in Fig. 1, the support of the fare indicator a consists of a flat bar d' which has angle-irons d', d<3> riveted to it at each each ; the angle-irons are pivoted at d<6>, d<7> to one arm of the fork b<5> of the bracket b, and to the bracket c, respectively. The bracket b is attached to the roof, and the bracket c to the back of the vehicle. The rotation of the support about its pivots is limited by stops, such as the ends d<8>, d<9> of the bent flat iron piece d'‹ riveted to the angleiron d<3>. A spring may keep the indicator in its normal position.
