Kinematographs. - To enable kinematographs and phonographs to be operated in unison, they are provided with indicators or alarms controlled by two rotating parts, one actuated by the kinematograph and the other by the phonograph ; or a switch may be moved over contacts to vary the resistance in an electric motor circuit. The phonograph may operate, in opposite directions, by means of the motor A, the wheels a, b of the differential gearing shown in Fig. 1. In this case, the casing e carrying the satellite wheels d is provided with a pointer f, which remains opposite to a fixed index when the kinematograph and phonograph are in unison. When the kinematograph C is operated by an electric motor instead of the handle c, the pointer f may be replaced by an arm moving over electric contacts so as to vary the resistance in the motor circuit and automatically regulate the speed of the motor. The arm may move between two electric contacts in circuit with electrically-controlled light or sound signals. Figs. 2 and 3 show an arrangement in which a dial plate E and a pointer F are operated independently, by a motor D running synchronously with the phonograph, and by the kinematograph, respectively. The gearing is arranged as shown, and the pinion q, which is operated by the kinematograph, can be geared with the pointer through either of two trains of wheels by gear-wheels r, w mounted on a movable arm, so as to allow the speed of the kinematograph to be altered. When 'the kinematograph and the phonograph are in unison, the pointer keeps opposite to a mark x on the dial plate. Figs. 4 and 5 show, respectively, two arrangements of the electric connexions for a synchronous motor arranged to make four times as many revolutions as a distributor operated by the phonograph. The coils of the field magnets M', N<1>, O<1>, P<1>, Q<1>, R' are shown connected together in two ways. Diametral pairs of coils are put in connexion with opposite poles of the battery in succession through the connexions known, the circuits being completed through contacts M, N, 0, P, Q, R, arranged and connected together as shown, and revolving brushes G, H operated by the phonograph. A switch T is arranged so that when it rests on a contact 3 the motor is in circuit, while, when 'it is brought over a contact 2, an electromagnet V is operated to release the phonograph mechanism.
