Raising liquids by aerating ascending column; direct air-pressure apparatus.-The water is first raised, by aerating it, to the tank C, where the air is separated under a pressure sufficient to force the water still higher. The separated air is returned by a pipe G to the compressor. The column of water in the tank C is high enough to act as a regulator. Additional regulating and air-supply devices consist, firstly, of valves 8 which, when the pressure in the system falls, are opened to admit air to the compressor by means of a piston 9 acted on on one side by a spring and on the other by the pressure in the tank C, and, secondly, of an airoperated pump K under the control of a piston 13 similar to the piston 9. The tank C is made double, to ensure the complete separation of the air.
