Exposures, determining. - Exposures in photographic cameras are controlled by setting the driving-spring of the shutter, and the adjustable diaphragm, by means of two or more relativelyadjustable scales indicating certain conditions which affect the intensity of the action of the light upon the plate. In the form shown in Fig. 1, two scales i, n are mounted on the camera concentric with the lens. On these scales are marked the different conditions of the view and of the light. The pointer d which indicates the adjustment of an iris diaphragm, is set to the kind of view to be photographed on the scale i. The pointer m which controls the tension of the shutter spring is set to the state of the light as indicated on scale n. Modifications are described in which the scales are concentric but of different diameters, the final scale showing the sum of the displacements of the other scale, which sum indicates the displacement of the diaphragm index.
