Chucks for pipe-screwing machines are provided with renewable jaws, which may be adjusted to suit different pipes without stopping the machine. A toothed rim 1, Fig. 2, journal 2, and tubular shaft 3 are preferably in one piece. Jaws 4 slide in radial openings 5, and are dovetailed on to wedge pieces 12, carried by a loose collar 10, and projecting through openings 6 in the body of the chuck. The jaws are kept in place by a front plate 7, and when this plate is removed the jaws are easily accessible. The collar 10 is provided with a band carrying a slotted bar 17, in which a stud 15 is adjustably clamped. A lever 14 working on this stud effects the opening or closure of the dies, adjustment for different diameters being obtained by altering the position of the stud 15 in the bar 17.
