Locking-bars, arrangements and connexions of.-Locking- bars for railway points are operated through a slotted link so constructed that by co - operating with a stop it disconnects the operating- lever from the bar when the movement of the lever is not to affect the bar, or vice versa. Figs. 1 and 3 show a plan and side elevation respectively of a pair of facing points and two locking-bars. The bars b are operated through slotted links a, cranks d, and a rod g by the signalman or a motor, and the stops e with which the slotted links, co-operate are, in the arrangement shown, moved by or with the stretcher rod. As shown, the right-hand link is supported by the stop e, Fig. 3, while the left-hand link is supported by a pin c on the crank d engaging in the recessed portion of the slot. When the rod g is moved in the direction of the arrow, the right-hand bar is unaffected while the left-hand one is lifted; the locking-bolt i is also simultaneously withdrawn, leaving the points free to be operated. When the points have moved over, the righthand stop e is withdrawn and the left-hand one protruded. The rod g is then moved to lock the points, and the cranks d assume their original positions, but the positions of the links are interchanged. At the next movement of the rod g, the right-hand bar is lifted while the lefthand bar is unaffected. To prevent the stops e from fouling the links, the slot in the links is of such a shape that when the pins c move into the dotted position shown in Fig. 3, the links are raised clear of the stops. The modified arrangement for the case in which a single locking-bar controls two pairs of points is shown diagrammatically in Fig. 4. The cranks l carrying the pins c for engaging in the slots of the links a are here connected through the rockshaft shown to the single bar m, and the power is applied to the opposite ends of the links a. In this arrangement the stops are fixed projec tions e<1>. The locking-bar is operated by the movement of either one of the links a, the other link being unaffected by this movement.
