A mismatched transmission line 10, intended for transmission of a steepfronted wave is associated with a matching section 22, 24 which has an impedance for the higher frequency components of the wave which is substantially equal to the line impedance and a D.C. impedance of substantially zero. The line 10, which may be a coaxial line, a twisted pair or a shielded wire, is connected to a driver stage 32 having a very low impedance. The signal consists of a direct current level having a steep leading edge this being fed to a variable high impedance load consisting of one or more of the logic stages 34. The combination 22, 24 is chosen so that the time constant L/R is somewhat longer than the delay time of the line 10 or somewhat greater than the rise time of the signal, whichever is larger. The wave is reflected from the mismatched output end C of the line but sees a matched impedance at the input end B so that there is no further reflection. After the full rise time, the combination 22, 24 appears as zero resistance and no D.C. energy is absorbed.
